About The Farmyard

In their early years sisters Julia Little and Emma Wilde (previously Jones) had spent time earning pocket money at Joanne's toyshop in Cobham, this experience obviously triggered dreams of one day opening their own shop.  In June 1993 their dreams came true when The Farmyard Children's Store first opened it's doors at 54, Friar's Stile Road on Richmond Hill.  The store was an immediate success due to a steady stream of visitors from far and wide including many from the world of stage, screen and radio who lived nearby - not forgetting the many pop stars and their wives who also lived in the area, all seeking that special gift for their young children.

The cellar below the shop, a dank and dusty cavern with artifacts from Victorian times groaned with stock for most of the year and overflowed at Halloween and Christmas times. Occasionally the odd job man (their father) could be seen emerging from the dusty cellar having made chairs and tables to order amongst the cobwebs below.

In October 2000, Emma's drive and enthusiasm and Julia's eye for a 'good line', style and presentation brought them to the point of opening another shop - or maybe three!  This led to the opening of The Farmyard Children's Store at 63 Barnes High Street, again initial success eclipsing even the successful Richmond shop.

In 2006 at the end of the Richmond lease, sadly, the decision was made to close the Richmond shop with Emma continuing the business from the Barnes shop.  In June 2009 both Julia and Emma had reached a point at which they, mainly due to family commitments, reluctantly decided to close the Barnes shop.  Their hard work and obvious success continues to this day with the many testimonials received from previous customers visiting this website.
